Reusable Logo Printed Cups are more than a fad

Plastic, it’s cheap, it’s convenient and it’s slowly destroying our environment.

The Problem With Plastic In The UK

In the UK, 2.5 billion disposable coffee cups are thrown away every single year. What’s more, whilst your coffee lasts you around 10-20 minutes of caffeine heaven, the cup you throw away takes over 30 years to decompose. We’re living in a disposable society, whereby convenience is often prioritised over environmental damage.

The problem when it comes to coffee cups is that many people believe that they’ve ‘done their bit’ by choosing to recycle them. However, most coffee cups that have been taken to be recycled will actually go into landfill as the plastic lining ensuring the cups are waterproof cannot be recycled. The process of removing the plastic lining from the paper is laborious and complicated and is therefore not done.

So what now? Just chuck your cups in any bin since they’ll end up in landfill one way or another? This is where the rise of the reusable cup comes in.

How Can We Combat The Damage Of Single-Use Plastic?

By no means are any of the many environmental agencies asking people to give up their daily coffee – it’s great for the local economy and many individual’s mental well-being – however, there are sustainable alternatives that mean people can enjoy a caffeine shot without negatively harming the environment.

Known as 'the war on waste', many coffee shops are now offering financial benefits for customers bringing their own reusable coffee cups. Pret A Manger, one of the main brands in the UK, offers 50p off your hot drink if you decide to use your own reusable coffee cup. At Costa Coffee, the largest coffee chain in the UK, you will receive 25p off your hot drink if you bring your reusable cup. Costa Coffee has also promised to recycle as many cups as it sells by 2020 - that's 500 million coffee cups being recycled each year!

We’re not only talking about coffee cups, with the help of some popular reality television programmes, a trend has been set to use personalised reusable water bottles. People have likened the reusable water bottle as ‘the new tote bag’, as a way to be environmentally conscious whilst staying on-trend. In fact, one mainstream fashion magazine states that the answer to “Still or sparkling” is “Tap”.

Investing in reusable cups is an effective way to that ensure your brand acts in a sustainable way whilst encouraging individuals to make an impactful difference to their morning routine without sacrificing their daily dose of coffee.
